HOMESCHOOL AND PHYSICS

Homeschooling has become a popular option for students and parents in Texas. However, parents often have concerns about using the homeschool approach with courses such as physics, especially Honors or Advanced Placement® Physics. Perhaps the subject matter for the course is outside the parent's area of expertise, or the parent wonders how to provide laboratory experiences that are an important part of these courses. Students often require outside assistance in understanding how an AP® Physics course is structured and in preparing for AP Physics exam. If your student is ready for the challenge of Honors or AP Physics coursework, I can help. I am quite familiar with the AP Physics program. I started the very successful AP Physics program at Dawson High School in Pearland in 2009. In 2015, I was honored to be selected as the Region IV (Houston area) Secondary Teacher of the Year, based in part on my work in implementing the brand-new AP Physics 1 and 2 programs at Dawson. I retired from classroom teaching in 2022. Now I tutor high school students, who attend public, private or homeschool, as well as college and university students. Depending on student needs, I can provide: instruction in physics topics, either as a supplement to another program or as part of independent study. help in understanding course assignments, to include assignments made by others or if desired, assignments I make. my own PowerPoints and other materials dealing with particular physics topics. suggestions for experiments that can be done in the home or online that complement physics instruction. guidance in reviewing for an AP Physics exam. On this page are some resources that can be useful in learning physics in a homeschooled environment. Please contact me at mark@physicsmeister.com if you would like to discuss how we can work together to help your homeschooled student achieve success in Honors or AP© Physics.
